Clubhouse Extension Press Release

Radcliffe-on-Trent Cricket Club is pleased to announce the completion of a project to extend the Clubhouse and provide two additional changing rooms. The Club recently completed the purchase of over 5 acres of land next to their current ground, and has constructed a second playing facility which has been in operation for the last three years.

This project marks the completion of a ten year project aimed at providing facilities suitable to satisfy the demand, within the local community, of more quality cricket pitches and coaching facilities. The Club currently runs 7 senior sides and junior sides from under 11s through to under 15s, for both boys and girls, the Club has over 180 registered juniors.

The Club has spent the last ten years raising sufficient funds to build these facilities. Altogether over £250,000 has been raised with significant contributions having been received from:

-        Waste Recycling Environmental Limited,

-        Sport England (New Opportunities Fund),

-        Foundation for Sports and the Arts,

-        Rushcliffe Borough Council,

-        Radcliffe-on-Trent Parish Council,

-        Nottinghamshire County Council,

-        The England and Wales Cricket Board,

-        Awards for All.

Brian Knowles, the Rushcliffe Borough Council's Leisure Facilities Manager said "The Borough Council has always been impressed with the Cricket Club's efforts in terms of welcoming all comers and particularly engaging young people in positive, healthy pastimes. The increased opportunities for simply watching cricket or taking an active part that will arise out of the development has the potential to have an impact across a wide cross section of the community."

Craig Taylor, Rushcliffe Borough Council's Cultural Services Manager said: "I am delighted that this much needed expansion has been completed and would like to pass on my congratulations to the club committee, club members and the local community who have all worked so hard for a number of years to enable this to take place. The Club is now well placed to recruit new players of all ages when cricket fever hits Rushcliffe this summer with the arrival of the ICC World Twenty20 Championships at Trent Bridge.

The Club has received many messages of support from the cricketing world, including the England & Wales Cricket Board, whose representative Mike Turner says "I believe that Radcliffe-on-Trent Cricket Club has an excellent scheme which is deserving of support especially as the focus is the development of the junior sides." A point demonstrated by the success of the Club's junior section, which in 2008 provided 16 players to the Notts. County representative sides.

The Rt. Hon. Kenneth Clarke, MP will officially open the new facilities at a ceremony to be held at the Club's ground on Friday 17th April 2009, commencing at 6.30 pm.
