Having breezed through the three earlier local qualifying rounds - against Bingham CC, Gedling CC and Carrington CC - on their way to the 2010 U13 County Cup final, last night saw ROTCC U13s deservedly triumph against NYCL rivals, Kimberley CC, for the privilege of representing Nottinghamshire in the inter-county play-off of the ECB Spirit of Cricket U13 National Club competition.

The tournament has attracted a record 1,800+ club entries this year, with around 27,000 junior cricketers all desperately battling for a coveted place in the finals, to be held in August at Oakham School.  Once there, each of the six finalist teams will compete for the title of ECB U13 National Club Champions and will be awarded the Ken Barrington Cup.

Andrew Flintoff, Monty Panesar, James Anderson, Nasser Hussain, Steve Harmison and Marcus Trescothick are among the illustrious names to have taken part in this contest in more recent times, a contest seen by the ECB as having established itself over the past 30 years as an important step on the path from playground to Test arena.

Beginning initially as a county competition, each of the 40 county champions progresses to a national knock-out competition via a series of inter-county and regional play-offs.  Finally, the six regional champions will be invited to play in a round-robin style contest at Oakham School, Leicestershire, from Wednesday 11 to Friday 13 August this year.

And so, having won the county round and the Colin Maxwell Trophy, our victorious U13s will now host the next leg versus Lincolnshire's county champions - either Lincoln Lindum CC or Scunthorpe Town CC - on a date before the 18 July.
